Quantum(-like) common knowledge: Binmore-Brandenburger operator approach
نویسندگان
چکیده
We present the detailed account of the quantum(-like) viewpoint to common knowledge. The Binmore-Brandenburger operator approach to the notion of common knowledge is extended to the quantum case. We develop a special quantum(-like) model of common knowledge based on information representations of agents which can be operationally represented by Hermitian operators. For simplicity, we assume that each agent constructs her/his information representation by using just one operator. However, different agents use in general representations based on noncommuting operators, i.e., incompatible representations. The quantum analog of basic system of common knowledge features K1 −K5 is derived. keywords: common knowledge, Binmore-Brandenburger operator approach, quantum(-like) decision making

Flexibility, Profitability and Survival in an (Objective) Model of Knightian Uncertainty
This paper explores the relationship between a firm’s investments in ‘capability building’, and its prospects for survival. The analysis is carried out using a model of Knightian uncertainty which differs from the standard ‘subjective probability’ approaches in a number of fundamental respects. ∗ Walras-Bowley Lecture, Econometric Society, 2004. This lecture was subsequently presented at the UC...
متن کاملKeep 'hoping' for rationality: a solution to the backward induction paradox
The jury is still out concerning the epistemic conditions for backward induction, the “oldest idea in game theory” (Aumann, 1995, p. 635). Aumann (1995) and Stalnaker (1996) take conflicting positions in the debate: the former claims that common “knowledge” of “rationality” in a game of perfect information entails the backwardinduction solution; the latter that it does not. Of course there is n...
متن کاملDo Conventions Need To Be Common Knowledge?
Do conventions need to be common knowledge? David Lewis builds this requirement into his definition of a convention. This paper explores the extent to which his approach finds support in the game theory literature. The knowledge formalism developed by Robert Aumann and others militates against Lewis’s approach, because it demonstrates that it is almost impossible for something to become common ...

The jury is still out concerning the epistemic conditions for backward induction, the “oldest idea in game theory” ([2, p. 635]). Aumann [2] and Stalnaker [31] take contradictory positions in the debate: Aumann claims that common ‘knowledge’ of ‘rationality’ in a game of perfect information entails the backward-induction solution; Stalnaker that it does not.1 Of course there is nothing wrong wi...
متن کاملLASERS WITHOUT INVERSION: DENSITY OPERATOR METHOD
A quantum theory of a two and three-level laser with injected atomic coherence is developed by using a density operator method, to the best of our knowledge, for the first time. The initial atomic coherence plays an essential role. At steady state, the equation of motion for the density operator yields to exhibit laser without inversion and a phase locking but no threshold for the laser fie...
